15 October 2014 – Creativity Pays Off!

I’m just back from the hospital and sipping a 926 calorie chocolate, peanut butter and banana smoothie packing 64 grams of protein. It smells good though I can barely taste it.

Today was treatment number 23. Only 7 to go! It’s been quite a journey.

My treatment went smoothly this morning and I had a great check up with Dr. Samuels afterwards.  He was very pleased with the condition of my mouth, tongue, neck, etc. and by the fact that I only lost 1 pound over the last week. My smoothies are paying off!  Dr. Samuels was also impressed by how well I am handling the side effects noting that I’ve handled them as well as he’s seen. Maintaining a positive attitude and harnessing my creativity has worked well for me. I am still hoping to make it through without a feeding tube and have the pain meds on stand by, just in case.

I think my body was in cleansing mode yesterday which has left me pretty tired. Time for a nap then off to Target to pick up a prescription to help protect my neck from getting more irritated and another to manage the thrush on my tongue.

That smoothie was actually really good!
