Today I began week 3 of treatment. 10 “fractions” down, 20 to go!
Aside from being a little more tired than usual I am feeling pretty good. My mouth and tongue are a little sore and my sense of taste is just about gone. Most foods have a bitter, metallic flavor to them. Even when I’m not eating I have a nasty bitter, metallic taste that comes and goes.
Fortunately I can still smell and have been using my nose to assist my poor taste buds. I continue to try different foods to see what I can taste, and tolerate. Keeping up my strength and spirit is important and I know nutrition is critical.
I had a nice weekend back in Vero. It was great to see my family. I miss them a lot when I’m in Miami. Their love and support have been an important part of my healing.
We had a pretty quiet weekend going to Publix and watching the University of Miami game Saturday and Dolphins on Sunday. Tragically, a friend of ours was killed early Saturday morning when the bicycle he was riding was hit by a drunk driver while crossing the 17th Street Bridge. We’ll forever remember Cole Coppola as a sweet young man who always had a big smile on his face. We have many fond memories of Cole including the boys going through their Power Ranger costume phase together.
Time for one of my protein power shakes; 4 tablespoons Greek Yogurt, 3-4 tablespoons peanut butter, 2 scoops Publix Greenwise chocolate protein powder, a tablespoon of instant Bustelo, 1 banana and some water and ice to thin it and cool it down. I hope I taste some of it!
